Honors Music Community & Event Planning Intern (Fall, J-term, Spring, or Summer)

Goal: Enhance a sense of belonging for Honors Music students, who compose roughly 30 percent of the Honors Program, by planning and executing community-building events; maintaining the Honors bulletin board in Mason Hall; and potentially identifying other goals and tasks in keeping with the Honors Program pillars (Learn. Lead. Live.) in relation to the distinctive needs and interests of Honors Music majors. 

Tasks:
  • Propose, promote, budget for, and host monthly (or more frequent) events for Honors Music majors
  • Promote the recitals and endeavors of Honors Music students
  • Promote the Honors Program and serve as a resource for disseminating information, both to Music students and to the Honors Director
  • Maintain the Honors bulletin board (by Mason Lounge) with all Honors events
  • Use software and social media to communicate with Honors Music majors and interested parties 
  • Help with virtual and in-person Honors events and recruitment (e.g., Orientation; recognition events; Go Big Blue Day)
  • (Possible) Perform on behalf of the Honors Program

Projects:
  • Participate as a student representative of the Honors Program in new student orientation, and recruitment events
  • Host/lead 4-8 events per semester
  • Create and distribute follow up surveys to demonstrate effectiveness or updates to consider (based upon university mission, Honors mission, career readiness, etc.)
  • Design promotions in keeping with publicity laws and add upcoming events to the Events@Fredonia calendar platform on the Fredonia website, as well as to the Honors Program Google Calendar

Qualifications:
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively while still being reliable and practicing good communication to ensure invested parties and colleagues are kept informed of daily activity
  • Undergraduate Honors Music major with an interest in event planning and community building
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and timeliness simultaneously
  • An outgoing, collaborative disposition and growth mindset 

Who are we looking for?
  • Creative individual passionate about student engagement
  • Undergraduate Honors Music student having completed a minimum of one year in the program
  • Knowledgeable in campus resources
  • Responsiveness to email, or virtual feedback, and requests or edits in a timely fashion

his role is unpaid; however, a student successfully completing this applied-learning experience and meeting all the requirements of an Honors Program Learning Contract may substitute this internship for any one required Honors course.

Details about the role:
  • 80 to 120 hours total during the 17-week semester
  • Approximately 5-6 or 8-10 hours per week, depending on whether pursuing 2 or 3 credits
  • To have this experience substitute for one Honors course, the student intern must maintain a weekly or biweekly learning journal, give a public presentation, and complete a substantive final paper, project, or portfolio connected to the experience.
